Made in Uganda Drives Commercialisation at National Science Week 2026

National Science Week 2026 Highlights the Role of Made in Uganda in Driving Commercialisation

The launch of National Science Week 2026 at Serena Kampala marked a significant milestone in Uganda's journey toward a USD 500 billion economy. Held under the theme "STI Works: Powering Uganda to a USD 500 Billion Economy,"the event brought together leaders, innovators, and industry players committed to advancing science, technology, and innovation.

Speaking at the launch, Minister for Science, Technology and Innovation, Hon. Dr. Monica Musenero, noted that Uganda has moved from a phase of "pathfinding" to one of "acceleration." This vision was reinforced by the STI Secretariat, where Ms. Cathy Muwumuza and Mr. Peter Orieun highlighted Made in Uganda (MIU) as a key platform for building consumer confidence and accelerating the commercialisation of Ugandan innovations.

At MIU, we believe that innovation only creates impact when it reaches the market. Through our Discover, Taste, and Join experience line, we are creating pathways that help consumers discover, access, and support quality Ugandan-made products.

As part of National Science Week 2026, MIU is showcasing several initiatives designed to strengthen Uganda's commerce ecosystem:

  1. The Discovery Corridor – a consumer journey that connects product discovery to purchase.
  2. The Packaging Centre of Excellence (PCOE) – supporting businesses with packaging, branding, research, and export readiness.
  3. Deli256 & Coffee & More Bar – experiential spaces where visitors can sample and engage with value-added Ugandan-made products.

According to Moses Byaruhanga, Venture Lead for Made in Uganda, MIU's focus is to become more than a marketplace by creating a national platform that helps authentic Ugandan products compete, scale, and succeed locally and internationally.

National Science Week 2026 demonstrates how science, innovation, and commerce can work together to create sustainable economic growth. Through partnerships, market access, and consumer engagement, Made in Uganda is helping build the infrastructure needed for a science-led economy.
